April 2018 Blog for SST 307/EDU 435

Hallelujah!!!!! This is the last blog of the Spring Semester. This semester has been challenging and overwhelming, but it also pushed me to become the best educator I could possibly be! It has been a long ride, but I am definitely read to take on the battle of student teaching!!!!! Learning Experiences: In EDUC 312, we have been working tirelessly to complete our Case Study/Learning Portfolio, EDtpa learning segments, and everything else that is due by the first week of May. I can honestly say that we are blessed to have such a supportive instructor. The learning experiences in this class has required me to invest more time in exploring the depths of literacy instruction. The subject of my case study suffers from a multiple learning deficits; more specifically, his inability to segment and blend words has become the focus of our interventions. He seems to respond very well to the added attention and I capitalize on this opportunity. In EDU 350, we have completed quite a bit this ...

March 2018 Blog

Learning Experiences: In SST 307: I have really enjoyed the learning experiences that took place during the month of March. Initially, I was on edge about working with new students in such high numbers, but when I got started, things seemed to flow smoothly. The top tweets of the week is an on-going learning experience. Tweeting allows us to connect with other valuable resources that have been shared via the internet. The flipped lesson component was also a meaningful learning experience. It allowed us to see how we could efficiently maximize the amount of instructional time for our students. We were able to flip one of the segments from our unit plan and present it to our peers. What an awesome idea! I realized that I was a bit long-winded, and it was quite difficult to keep from lecturing past the allotted time. The Apple Apps Evaluation project was also a meaningful assignment. I was grateful to see that the creators of the software also provides a way to critique the compatibilit...

SST 307/EDU 435 Monthly Blog Post #2 (February 2018)

Learning Experiences: This month has been very busy and it has been extremely difficult to manage time and complete the learning experiences with quality efforts. Thankfully, the good Lord and our professor feel our pain and find ways to ease the stress for their students. In SST 307, we are continuing to develop the Apps Evaluation, Today's Learner and Unit Plan projects. The Apps Evaluation project is most important because it provides teachers with additional teaching resources that impacts student learning. These apps connect to the principle of Universal Design for Learning which provides multiple methods of engagement and expression for students. It is also culturally relevant because students of today's generation are technologically literate and find intrinsic value in the exploration of technology. The Today's Learner Projects was also an interesting task. Throughout my college experience, we have discussed the various learning styles of people. I even had the pl...

January 2018

This has been an interesting first quarter in social studies methods. Dr. Parker has provided us with more than enough assignments. I will say that the assignments have been very helpful in understanding how to deliver and design purposeful social studies instruction. During the month of January, I had the pleasure of visiting Coddle Creek Elementary again. I had not been to the school since last semester, so I was eager to see my former clinical educators and their students. When I came through the door, they were eager to see me as well and embraced me with a big hug. I had emailed Mr. Booth prior to visiting to see if he was interested in being interviewed for the Wisdom From Experience project. He agreed to the interview but unfortunately his schedule would not allow the interview. I did, however, sit and observe some of his teaching practices. In accordance with Universal Design for Learning and 21st century learning concepts, teachers are required to adjust their schedule to the ...
